Aldersgate Camp

 

Aldersgate Camp & Retreat Center has been exciting and empowering campers of all ages for over 50 years! Located about an hour southeast of Lexington, KY, in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, join us during June and July this summer for a thrilling adventure full of activities like zip-line, horses, sports, music, campfires, Bible study, hay rides, art, swimming, fun, friends, memories, and so much more!

Bluegrass Youth Ballet presents: KIDS FUN ART

Join us for another great year of dance, music, art, drama & Spanish. This workshop is designed to get kids interested in the world through art. This year the kids will learn all about Africa, their music, dance and art. They will also have an informal performance of the story of Wangari Maathai at the end of the week.

Camp Creativity was developed by two art teachers to provide arts enrichment and learning activities for children ages 3 – 12.

Session 1: Pirate Parrr-ty!    May 30th – June 2nd
Ahoy ye land lubbers! We be diving under the sea to find our lost treasure! We’ll explore Davy Jones’ Locker and stumble upon the lost city of Atlantis. Create your treasure chest and fill it with artwork of pirate ships, sea creatures, painted sea shells. Imagine and build an underwater city. Yo ho ho and a bottle of paint!

Session 2: The Art of Entertainment – Theme Park and Circus Design    June 5th – 9th
Step right up! Create rides that thrill and circus acts that delight. Design colorful Willy Wonka-inspired candy treats, gleaming and glittering midway games, and shows with wondrous surprises. Dream big as you engineer roller coasters and spine chilling attractions. Come one, come all! Get your ticket to the most creative show on earth!

Session 3: Bringing Stories to Life – Puppetry, Animation, and More!    June 12th – 16th
Behind every great movie, comic book, or video game is a compelling story. But how do you transform a story from “just a story” to visual entertainment? In this camp we will explore different methods of visual storytelling- from brainstorming to drawing storyboards to bring the story to life. We will be creating puppets, learning about theater scene design, and animation.    *Please note we will be doing digital animation in the morning. Campers signed up for this session should bring a mobile device, tablet, or laptop on which to create their animation.

Session 4: Full STEAM Ahead!    June 19th – 23rd
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. When outside-the-box-thinking doesn’t quite cut it – create your own box! Imagineer your own amazing designs to conquer unique challenges. Construct your own Rube Goldberg machine, propel a baking soda rocket, get wound-up in a rubber band car, and find out how many straws it takes to support a bowling ball. The future belongs to those who S.T.E.A.M!

Session 5: Art- the Final Frontier     June 26th – 30th
Blast off to an out of this world art odyssey! We’re on mission to create intergalactic masterpieces. Boldly go were to no artist has gone before to paint galaxies far, far, away; sculpt a newly discovered alien life form; and build a space ship. Explore the farthest reaches of your imagination in this stellar camp.

Session 6: Jurassic Art    July 5th – 7th
 Stomp in to prehistoric times to explore dinosaurs and disasters! Create fossils, study ancient artifacts, and make an erupting volcano. Discover a lost world buried for millions of years!

Session 7: Hawaiian Hullabaloo     July 10th -14th
Aloha! Catch a wave to the art luau inspired by the colors and culture of Hawaii. Hang ten on your own personalized surfboard and learn to sway with the palm trees through hula dancing. Paint seashells, build a boat, and sculpt tiki mugs in the Polynesian style. Bring your sunscreen for a short week of fun in the sun. Mahalo!

Session 8: Jungle Safari    July 17th – 21st
Go wild on this expedition to the rainforest! Hop in your jeep and race in to an art adventure. Create traditional batiks, papier mache animals, and a rainforest diorama. We will learn about folk-art from Panamá by making mola collages and ceramics inspired by ancient Aztec carvings.

Session 9: Wizarding World of Art  July 24th – 28th
You have been accepted to the Hogwarts School of Art and Wizardry! You will get sorted in to your house, create your wand and join the Dueling Club. We will also create a spell book and explore the same subjects that Harry studied at Hogwarts including Care of Magical Creatures and Potions.  Learn how these subjects truly connect to our Muggle world!

Session 10: Medieval Quest  July 31st – August 4th
Embark on an epic quest to a land of mighty monarchs and noble knights. Unlock the secrets of medieval artisans as you make jeweled crowns, royal coats of arms and castle-worthy stained glass. Build powerful catapults and fortified castles fit for kings and queens. Polish your armor and prepare for great feats of innovation in a medieval legend of your own making.

Camp Curiosity offers fun, interactive, educational programming for children 3 years old through 8th grade. We offer each child the opportunity to create a personalized, independent schedule selecting from a wide variety of activities such as athletic, arts, science and much more!

Explore nature without ever leaving the museum! We will examine real life insects and animals, construct “emergency” structures and discover the world around us!

Week 11: July 31 – August 4 – Fancy Fossils
Dig up some Dino bones with us and explore what life was like when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth!

The Kiddie Kapers Dance Camp is offered for two different age groups. The Dance Babies Camp is a half-day session and includes instruction in basic ballet, tap and jazz as well as arts and crafts, story time, movement and motor skill development. Participants must be three years of age as of June 1. The Dance Kids Camp is a full-day session and includes instruction in tap, jazz, cheer dance and movement, ballet, arts and crafts and daily swimming. Previous dance instruction is not required. Participants must be seven years old by the first day of their session. Partial scholarships are available for the full-day camp only.

The Masterson Station Park Equestrian Program is an introductory series of lessons and classroom mini lectures (both mounted and unmounted) that will go into detail about general horsemanship. This will include stable management skills, basic first aid for the horse, and of course, riding! Each rider will have a partner and both will be assigned a horse and will be responsible for grooming, saddling and overall general care of their horse. Camp size will be held to 10 participants per week. Drop off and pick up is at the Masterson Station Park Indoor Riding Arena.
