Join us to celebrate Earth Day–on TWO days! We will host UK College of Fine Arts School of Music doctoral student Christian Swafford at 1 pm on April 22 under the gazebo in the Home Demonstration Garden. He and a group of local and UK percussionists will perform Michael Gordon’s Timber, a piece for six amplified wooden planks. The amplification of the complex timbral qualities of the wood creates an ethereal sonic experience and encourages a meditation in sound and rhythm. The group is comprised of members from the UK Percussion Program and independent artists from the southeastern region. This performance is free and open to everyone.
On Friday April 22nd and Saturday April 23rd, there will be special crafts and activities in the Kentucky Children’s Garden from 10 am to 1 pm (the garden remains open with regular activities until 5 pm). Regular admission rate of $3 per person applies. Kentucky Children’s Garden staff and volunteers will help celebrate Earth Day by making reusable bags from used t-shirts, planting something to take home, and other educational and fun activities will be offered about how to be a good steward of the earth’s resources.
