The Bradley family’s church Christmas Pageant is always the same, year after year – until the Herdmans show up! With “the worst kids in the world” taking the lead roles, this year’s Pageant will be a total disaster. But it might just be the year when the rambunctious, rag-tag Herdmans help their community see Christmas in a whole new way, and prove that even “the worst kids in the world” can change it for the better.

Review

Lex Fun 4 Kids writer, Nicki, and her family enjoyed the first performance of this holiday classic and have a great review of the show!

The Bradley family’s church Christmas Pageant is always the same, year after year – until the Herdman’s show up! With “the worst kids in the world” taking the lead role this year’s Pageant will be a total disaster. But it might be just the year when the rambunctious, rag-tag Herdmans help their community see Christmas in a whole new way, and prove that even “the worst kids in the world” can change it for the better.

The theatrical production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” proved to be an engaging and enjoyable experience for audiences of all ages, especially for my three sons aged 9, 7, and 4. The performance, with a runtime of approximately 60 minutes, captivated even the most “wiggly” attendees with its action-packed narrative.

Starting off the action, one of the central characters, Charlie, falls victim to the Herdmans, a notorious bully family when his yummy snacks are pilfered. Charlie makes the mistake of telling the Herdmans that there are unlimited snacks at Sunday School.

The Herdman family unexpectedly makes an appearance at Sunday School, eventually volunteering to participate in the Christmas pageant. What follows is a series of entertaining mishaps during the rehearsals, culminating in a memorable last practice session that requires the intervention of the fire department. Remarkably, the ensemble never manages to complete a full rehearsal before showtime.

As the curtains rise for the much-anticipated performance, church and community members brace themselves for the unexpected. Surprisingly, the unfolding events defy expectations, evoking even a hint of emotion from the audience.

The enchanting atmosphere of the historic Lexington Opera House, where the Lexington Children’s Theater hosted the performance, added an extra layer of charm to the evening. Credit is due to the exceptional efforts of the cast and crew, whose collective talents were showcased in a splendid manner. Witnessing the abundance of talent among both children and adults in Lexington was truly awe-inspiring.
