Lexington Parks & Recreation invites the community to enjoy an evening of beautiful music at the 3rd annual Opera Under the Stars at 8 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the Moondance at Midnight Pass Amphitheater, 1152 Monarch Street.
The event will feature some of the best opera artists in Central Kentucky, a diverse program of opera music ranging from classical to musical theatre, and a strings trio pre-show. Admission is $5; children under 3 are free. All tickets are sold on-site.
“The Moondance Amphitheatre, complete with a backdrop of twinkling stars on stage, sets the perfect tone for a casual night out filled with amazing music,” said Amber Luallen, Cultural Arts Program Administrator. “Opera Under the Stars is an opportunity for both opera-lovers and newcomers to the genre to experience an evening of high-end talent at an accessible price.”
Mark Kano returns for his second year as artistic director of the show. This year’s performers include Dr. Angelique Clay, Gabrielle Barker, Holly Dodson, Zack Morris and Eric Brown. The program itself will feature music of Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, Wagner, Rossini, Bizet, Bernstein and Gilbert & Sullivan. Strings in One will provide the preshow entertainment.
Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating at the amphitheater. Patrons may pack a picnic dinner or buy from local food trucks on site. All seating is first-come, first-served.
