Meet some of the amazing trees in Lexington-Fayette County! Central Kentucky has a wide diversity of tree species, many of which are featured in the Go See Trees program.
Go See Trees highlights the importance of planting the right tree in the right place. Different species of trees do well in different environments. Planted in the right place, a tree can thrive. Soil moisture, utility lines, pollution levels and space constraints all contribute to whether a tree will do well in a particular location.
Happening Oct. 14 – November 16
How to participate in Go See Trees:
- Visit some of the trees found on our tree map
- Touch them, hug them, look at them, admire them
- Take a breath, invite some silence, feel your feelings around them
- Think about all the things this individual tree has seen in its 200+ years
- Cultivate even more gratitude for this tree and all trees
- Fill out our passport as you visit these trees to win a prize
Passports will be available for download and at libraries, community centers and other locations around town. Check back soon for passports!
Bonus activities
- Read about each tree and where it’s planted in the pop-up windows on the map!
- Explore downtown. Look for a local restaurant to enjoy a meal or drink. Find some cool art. Relax at a park.
If you’re pining for some pines all year long, luckily, the Lexington Tree Board developed a new, permanent Downtown Tree Walk.
The installation features 18 of the board’s favorite trees along Main and Vine Streets.
And this is a map to all Go See Trees locations of the past.
