Despite his friends’ cheer and excitement, Charlie Brown is not in the Christmas spirit. Sally is making her Christmas list, Snoopy is decorating his doghouse, and Charlie Brown is wondering what it’s all for. But when Charlie Brown thinks he ruined Christmas, the Peanuts help each other remember what friendship is all about.

Lex Fun 4 Kids writer Kelly and her family enjoyed opening weekend of A Charlie Brown Christmas.   Enjoy learning more with her review!

We were excited to see this play as we’ve watched the holiday classic every year (a family tradition!). The play itself started late due in part to the long line at will call for ticket pickup. So come early (or even a day or two before!) if you can! It was, however, worth the wait! It was my family’s first time inside the Lexington Opera House, and it was beautiful!

The play starts beautifully with slow falling snow (my kids couldn’t believe it snowed INSIDE!). The cast varies on the day and time you see the show so be sure to check your program! We saw the show on Saturday, Dec 1st at 2 pm. This play is perfect for all ages. Adults will enjoy seeing characters they grew up brought to life and children will love the story! The costumes were perfect! Charlie and his sister Sally were easy to spot. And poor Schroeder as he does his best to keep Lucy’s romantic gestures at bay. As a Mom, I just wanted to bathe Pig Pen! Throughout the play, I would look over at my kids (ages 4 and 6), and every time they were perched on the edge of their seats. I also loved it, and so did my husband!

The hard work the cast put into the play is obvious. From Frieda making a large pile of snowballs on the sidelines to how thoroughly dirty Pig Pen is! The set was beautiful (we loved the growing Christmas tree at the end). For us though, Snoopy stole the show! His antics, from licking the children, to driving his airplane, kept us laughing throughout the play!

It ends with the much loved Charlie Brown Christmas tree (good grief!) but don’t make a mistake and sneak out early! The cast finishes the show with some Christmas carols! Audience participation in this is encouraged!  This performance was a great start to our holiday season. We left feeling joyful and even more excited for the Christmas season! Hurry and get your tickets before it’s too late!

• This play is at the Lexington Opera House and NOT the Children’s Theater.

• Come early as traffic and parking can be challenging during the holidays.

• Pick up your tickets ahead of time if you can. Due to printing issues, there was a long line at will call before the show.

• Bring cash for merchandise, the coat check and to give as a donation in support of LCT.

• There is an elevator. However, there can be several steps to get to your seats. If this is an issue for you, I suggest communicating this with them ahead of time.
