The LASC is now taking registrations for their award-winning creative and educational arts and science programs that will take place during the summer, 2015.  Over 150 unique arts and science classes are available for two-year old children up to adults.  The Living Arts & Science Center’s programs have earned the Best Academic Camp award by Lexington’s Family Magazine for the past three years (2012, 2013, 2014) as well as the 2014 Golden Apple Education Award from Fayette County Schools and Commerce Lexington.

Beginning June 1, 2015, nine one-week sessions of classes will offer creative fun in a wide range of artistic and scientific media.  Students may design their own partial and full day sessions from over 150 age-specific classes such as animation and filmmaking; cartooning; digital media; 3D printing: fashion design; animal, insect and plant science; architecture; photography; painting; mask making; Chinese dance; sculpture, drawing;  ceramics; bookmaking; fiber art; and much more.   All classes are unique and include topics such as “Build Your Own Dream Home”, “Character Creation – 3D Printing”, “Science By the Sea;” and “Equine Art,” among others.

Small class sizes (12 or less) ensure lots of individual attention with guest artists and scientists.  Classes for students Kindergarten through 12thgrade are offered 8 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday.  Students may select one or two classes or bring their lunch and stay the whole day!  Early drop-off is available for students participating in 8:00 AM classes.

Additional classes throughout the summer include:

  • Pre-School classes are offered in week-long sessions 10:30 AM – 12 noon;
  • Teen and adult classes are available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6 – 8 PM.

Early Registration Discount

Register for summer classes before May 18 and receive 5% off of your registration PLUS you will be entered into a drawing for a DELUX birthday party at the LASC.

Early Morning Drop Off

Students enrolled in the LASC’s 8:00 AM class may be dropped off at the LASC at 7:30 PM, for no additional cost.

 

Payment Plans

To aid families registering multiple children or for multiple classes, the LASC now offers a summer payment plan for registrations of $400 or more.  A $100 deposit, per child, will be due upon registration with the remainder to be invoiced prior to the start of classes.  You can request a payment plan by calling the offices.

Scholarships

Students with financial need may apply for full or partial class scholarships.  Fill out the scholarship form located on the LASC Website or call for one to be mailed.  Scholarships are provided courtesy of the Bluegrass Community Foundation, Children’s Charity Fund of the Bluegrass, and the Orphan Society.

Weekly classes range in price from $25.00 to $100.00.  Join the LASC as an Individual or Family Member to receive a substantial discount on each class as well as many other special benefits.

Now celebrating their 46th year, The Living Arts & Science Center is a not-for-profit organization that provides creative and unique opportunities for exploration and education in the arts and sciences.  Art galleries, a Discovery gallery, and arts and science classes and workshops are provided year-round for children and adults of all ages.  In addition, the Living Arts and Science Center partners with community agencies and organizations to provide free hands-on arts activities at community events and programs and classes for special needs and at-risk students.

 

A Capital Campaign, Imagine This!, is on-going and construction is in progress to renovate the LASC’s historic building and to expand their facility into an additional building with new classrooms, a Digital Media Lab, a teaching kitchen, a planetarium, a clay studio, and more.  Completion of the addition is expected late in 2015.
