As autumn turns our urban canopy into vibrant shades of gold and crimson, The Arboretum, State Botanical Garden of Kentucky, invites you to celebrate Kentucky’s Tree Week with us. Packed with guided walks, hands-on workshops, and family-friendly activities, this week-long celebration offers something for every nature lover.
The Signature Event: The 35th Arbor Day Celebration
The highlight of the week is the 35th Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, October 17. As Tree Week’s marquee gathering, this full-day festival provides an engaging experience for the whole family. We are honored to have Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities Foundation as our presenting sponsor for this fun-filled day. We kick it off with the always popular and wild “Plant Exchange” where you are welcome to swap non-invasive plants, books, tools, and all things plant-adjacent. The rest of the day has something for everyone:
- Free Admission & Activities: Enjoy free admission all day to the Kentucky Children’s Garden, packed with hands-on nature crafts and family activities.
- Civic Proclamation: Gather at 10:00 a.m. for Lexington’s official Arbor Day proclamation.
- Community Tree Planting: Join Arboretum staff at 11:00 a.m. to help plant the official Arbor Day Tree provided by Dave Leonard.
- Interactive Exhibitors: Explore displays and activities hosted by UK groups and local community partners throughout the grounds.
