Veterans Day is a national holiday observed annually on November 11 that honors veterans who have served in the US Armed Services. The date is significant because major hostilities of World War I formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service.

The Lexington Philharmonic will present its third Season Series concert, To Be Certain of the Dawn on Friday, November 11, at 7:30 PM at the Singletary Center for the Arts (SCFA). This performance embodies several very important messages for humanity today, and is a significant undertaking for the orchestra. To Be Certain of the Dawn will be presented on November 11, Veteran’s Day, to honor all who have fought for our freedoms.
To Be Certain of the Dawn is an oratorio composed as a gift “to the Jewish community from the community of Christianity” and memorializes the sixtieth anniversary of the liberation of Germany’s concentration camps. Michael Browne, the librettist for To Be Certain of the Dawn also brings focus to the Nostra Aetate [Our Era], the 1965 papal encyclical condemning Christian hatred of Jews. Mr. Browne will be in attendance at the November 11 concert as well as discussing the work with Maestro Terrell in LexPhil’s pre-concert discussion, “Inside the Score”. To Be Certain of the Dawn will provide an artistic experience that explores the eternal issues of humanity, tolerance and respect through the lens of the Holocaust and the Exodus, respectively.
Tickets to To Be Certain of the Dawn range from $35-85 with $11 student tickets as available. To Be Certain of the Dawn is made possible through the generous support of an Anonymous Donor as the Premium Concert Partner and Central Bank, Anthem-BlueCross BlueShield and Tempur + Sealy, Season Series Partners.
