LemonAiD Days supports local homeless children while empowering young people to make a positive difference in our community. By operating a LemonAiD stand during the month of July, kids raise money that supports children staying at The Salvation Army’s Emergency Homeless Shelter in Lexington.

LemonAiD Days

HOMELESSNESS IN THE BLUEGRASS

Last year The Salvation Army was a safe haven for over 1,500 homeless individuals including 260 children. Half of Kentucky residents have to spend more than 30% of their income to afford the cost of housing (Kentucky Youth Advocates, 2018) so it’s not surprising that when an unexpected crisis hits, a family can quickly find themselves without a place to live. At our shelter we start by meeting basic needs, with more than 50,000 days of 24 hour shelter and 160,000 meals served last year, but we don’t stop there. We provide comprehensive support that helps families find housing and keep it. In the past two years, 96% of those we served have not returned to our shelter with a repeat episode of homelessness. Learn more about our shelter.

2023 Kickoff – June 1st 3 pm – 7 pm

Calling all families with children interested in giving back to our community!

The Salvation Army is hosting their LemonAid Days Kickoff event near the children’s play area at Fayette Mall. LemonAid Days supports local homeless children in Central Kentucky, while empowering young people to make a positive difference in our community. The Salvation Army will be in the mall answering questions and distributing lemonade stand supplies to local children and families who register to participate. Families registering will receive materials necessary to create their very own lemonade stand in their neighborhood. Donations from these lemonade stands will be used to provide new shoes, backpacks, clothing, and school supplies for the children staying at the homeless shelter with their families.

There will also be a character appearance featuring a Beauty Princess and Sleeping Beauty who will be playing games, singing songs, and celebrating with the children in the play area from 3 – 5pm!

Major Asit George, Central Kentucky Area Coordinator for The Salvation Army observed, “One strong feature of the LemonAid Days is the enthusiastic involvement of the children. The children are embracing the attitude of compassion and thoughtful giving to those who are truly needy – other children. The different generations come together to continue the trend of caring.”

Pre-registration is not necessary for the in-person kickoff event.
