DESCRIPTION:Participate in a free Black History Month tour: When Reason Sl
 eeps\, Brutality Walks Free\, featuring a photograph and sculpture by reno
 wned British Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare\, among other Black History r
 elated art. Tour times are 10 am\, 11:30 am\, 1 pm\, 2:30 pm\, or 3:45 pm.
  Visitors must pre-register for assigned slot online.\n\n\n\nAshland is r
 enowned as the home of Senator Henry Clay and four generations of his desc
 endants. However\, the luxury and comfort they enjoyed were only possible 
 because of the labor of Black men\, women\, and children.\n\nBefore the Ci
 vil War\, these individuals were enslaved\, living and working at Ashland 
 against their will. Despite this\, they seized every opportunity to try an
 d make their voices heard. After the war\, they were employed laborers\, y
 et their stories remain largely unrecorded in their own words. Instead\, w
 e uncover their experiences through archival fragments and archaeological 
 discoveries.\n\nThis February\, join us for "When Reason Sleeps\, Brutalit
 y Walks Free"\, as we delve into Black History at Ashland. Through archiva
 l exploration and the powerful art of renowned contemporary artist Yinka 
 Shonibare\, CBE on loan from Jim Gray and other local artists\, we honor 
 and piece together these untold stories.\n\n\n\n\nWhat's included\n\n\n 	S
 ee a photograph and a sculpture by internationally renowned British Nigeri
 an artist Yinka Shonibare\, CBE\, among other artwork by local artists rel
 ated to Black History.\n 	Hear the stories of enslaved people from before 
 the Civil War and the stories of African American employees from after the
  Civil War.\n 	See Henry Clay's historic 18-room mansion through the eyes 
 of those for whom it was a place of labor.\n\n\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAshland\, the
  Henry Clay Estate\, is owned and operated by the Henry Clay Memorial Foun
 dation. The Foundation\, through its preservation of Ashland and education
 al initiatives\, interprets Henry Clay’s legacy from many perspectives t
 o understand the complex history of his era and address its continued rele
 vance for a more perfect Union. The Foundation is dedicated to preserving
  Henry Clay’s historic estate and important legacy for future generation
 s. Governed by a diverse volunteer board of directors and Advisory Council
 s the Foundation is working to ensure Ashland remains a vibrant and progre
