DESCRIPTION:\nCelebrate Lexington’s official “birthday” at the annual
  Founders’ Day celebration and experience the frontier life of 1775 for 
 yourself. Concessions are available on-site\, with proceeds benefiting McC
 onnell Springs programs.\n\n\n\nActivities for the day include:\n\n\n\n\nT
 raditional live music and dance\;\n\n\n\nGuided tours of the park’s 27 a
 cres of woodland trails\;\n\n\n\nColonial crafts such as woodworking\, qui
 lt making\, weaving and gun-smithing\;\n\n\n\nExhibits of colonial tools a
 nd Indian artifacts\;\n\n\n\nDemonstrations of pioneer cooking and blacksm
 ithing\;\n\n\n\nA special frontier living history area around the primitiv
 e log cabin\; and\n\n\n\nChildren’s activities include bow &amp\; arrow\
 , tomahawk throw\, and pioneer kids toys and games.\n\n\n\n\nTwo hundred f
 orty-seven years ago Lexington and the surrounding Bluegrass was a woodlan
 d paradise for pioneers seeking freedom and land of their own. William McC
 onnell and a surveying party were camping down by the Springs when word ca
 me of the Battle of Lexington and the start of the Revolutionary War. In h
 onor of that event\, the explorers decided to name our community Lexington
 \, and did so in 1779 when the town was founded. This year\, in honor of t
 hat surveying party\, we have a special presentation on the frontier surve
 yors. Experience frontier life of 1775 for yourself! Founders’ Day is he
 ld from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be traditional musical entertainment\
 ; colonial crafts such as woodworking\, quilt making\, weaving &amp\; guns
 mithing. Exhibits of colonial tools &amp\; Indian artifacts.\nThis is a FR
 EE family event\, come spend the day! We have invited a food truck for you
 r lunch. As always\, a rain or shine event\; sunscreen\, rain gear and ins
