How Kentucky Became a State

Monday, May 22nd,

Kentucky will have been a state for 225 years on June 1st. Lexington historian Foster Ockerman, Jr., will talk about the “Road to Statehood,” including the eight constitutional conventions, foreign intrigue, and the first meeting of the new government in Lexington, the provisional capital. Registration recommended.

Intro to Melt and Pour Soapmaking

Saturday, May 13th,

2:00PM to 4:00PM

Come and have fun crafting glycerin soap. Design and make three 4 ounce bars of soap to take with you at the end of class. You will be experimenting with color, fragrance, texture, embeds, and different shapes for your soap. This is a great introduction to the easiest type of soapmaking. We will not be using any harsh chemicals, so this class is appropriate for children who are old enough to work safely with hot liquids.

Connect the Dots: Addressing Challenging Behaviors of Children Ages 2 to 5 years

Do you feel like it’s hard to enjoy these early years because you are too busy saying “no, don’t, stop!” all the time? Are you overwhelmed by all the tips and tricks out there and eager for something that is easy to remember? Connect the Dots highlights 4 easy to remember steps to address challenging behaviors. The 4 steps encompass both the “well-being” and the “well-doing” of children to ensure strong social and emotional skills needed for success in school and life. Connect the Dots is a joint collaboration between multiple early education and mental health specialists across Kentucky. The collaboration was built to address a common need: The need for a short yet powerful skills-based training teaching the basics of social and emotional best practices. Connect the Dots resources and trainings are for anyone who works with children ages two to five years old.

We’ll start with setting up a print job, work our way through loading the filament, and finish by printing a small object.Completion of this course is required to utilize the Digital Studio’s 3D makerspace.

Monarch Waystation Milkweed Planting

Saturday, May 20th,

Join us as we enlarge our Monarch Way station by adding the young milkweeds we’ve been growing from seeds this spring.Part of this program will take place outdoors and is dependent on the weather. Please check weather conditions or the library Facebook page for updates. Dress comfortably with appropriate footwear for yard work. Attendees may bring a camp chair or blanket to sit upon.
