Countdown to Kindergarten supports and promotes quality early childhood education in our community. The summer program for Fayette County Public School children allows those entering kindergarten and their families to experience fun and educational activities throughout the community. The program raises awareness of the importance of early childhood learning and of organizations that offer educational programming. Countdown to Kindergarten is designed to create enthusiasm as children enter the lifelong journey of learning.
Countdown to the first day of kindergarten as you explore all the fun Lexington has to offer this summer. Once your child is registered for Kindergarten, pick up your t-shirt at any Lexington Public Library branch and let the journey begin!

“A day to explore McConnell Springs” Children and their families will participate in a nature scavenger hunt. Free admission for child in C to K shirt and their families.

Lexington Philharmonic – Concert at the Carnegie Center
Music Tells A Story: Peter and the Wolf – Introduce your family to the world of musical instruments with the LexPhil Woodwind Quintet’s presentation of “Peter and the Wolf.” Pre-Concert Activities: Instrument Petting Zoo, Musical Crafts, Coloring Pages and More! Child in C to K shirt and one parent get in free, all others $5.

Learn about water quality while participating in hands-on activities: Paint a fish print, go fishing for “pollution”, make a pool noodle boat, and more! Free admission for child in C to K shirt and their families.

Discovery Saturday! Explore the Living Arts & Science Center during this special Discovery Saturday program! Enjoy hands-on exhibits, art & makerspace activities, live animals, a planetarium show and more! Free admission is only for Kindergartener with a C to K shirt and one adult. Additional guests $2 per person.

KET 600 Cooper Drive
“Super Saturday 2017” KET wants to help your little one get ready for kindergarten. Kids in C to K shirts plus one accompanying adult (two, if there’s room) are invited to a special Countdown to Kindergarten zone within Super Saturday in the KET Media Lab. Each child will leave with a book and activities to do at home. Registration is required online at ket.org/supersaturday
and begins June 15, 2017.

Lexington Legends Baseball – Whitaker Bank Ballpark – Gates open at 1 p.m. with game starting at 2p.m.
Countdown to Kindergarten at the Lexington Legends! Activities for Kindergartener include; running the bases at the end of the game and Kids Area fun! Free admission for Kindergartner with a C to K shirt and all kids under 12! Adults with Kindergartner will get $5 tickets! To pre-register please call Dominique Neel at 859-422-7851. Every group that is with a kindergartener needs to go to the Will Call Tent to pick up/purchase tickets.

How does it work?
Children who register for kindergarten with Fayette County Public Schools
for the fall of 2017 will receive information and a t-shirt voucher in their registration packet. Parents may use the voucher to redeem a free Countdown to Kindergarten t-shirt at any Lexington Public Library branch beginning in the month of May. This t-shirt will act as the child’s “ticket” to a variety of FREE and fun events this summer. Click here

How does my child get a t-shirt?
Any child who has registered for kindergarten through Fayette County Public Schools will receive a welcome packet about starting school. Within that packet you will find some information about Countdown to Kindergarten, as well as a voucher for your t-shirt. Bring the voucher to any Lexington Public Library branch to claim your t-shirt. The t-shirt becomes your child’s FREE ticket to the Countdown to Kindergarten events.
I registered my child, but don’t think I received a t-shirt voucher – now what do I do?
If your child has registered for kindergarten with Fayette County Public Schools and you did not receive a voucher for your free t-shirt, please email Alice Nelson at[email protected]

Can my child or other siblings get into the events without a Countdown to Kindergarten t-shirt?
Children entering kindergarten must have and wear the Countdown to Kindergarten shirt to gain FREE access to the sponsored events. Siblings may be allowed, depending on the specific event. Please see the 2017 schedule of events
for more information. Additional costs may apply for siblings or additional adults.
