Q and A with Bluegrass Turbo!
What does a typical event look like?
I will arrive 45-60 minutes before the scheduled play start time to setup the arena. Once everything is in place you can begin playing even if it’s before your play start time. Depending on the number of players, we will do a round of free play to get everyone comfortable controlling the cars. Then we can begin a tournament or just continue with free play with a different game. It depends on the audience. Younger children may enjoy the free play; older children may enjoy the competitiveness of the other games. After the event, it will take about 30 minutes for breakdown.
What is the max number of people you have at an event?
Up to 16 cars can be played at one time. Most parties have 4 to 8 players taking turns which allows for tournaments or different games such as demolition derby (free-for-all or team), capture the flag, or soccer.
What is the cost to have you at my child’s birthday party and what is included?
We have a party package for every budget and we can work with you to make sure you only pay for what you need. The basic party package includes 2 hours of play, 4 cars, a custom arena delivered to your location, 2 ramps, and the accessories to play several game styles. Our Turbo and Epic packages and customization options allow you to add more cars or coordinate your party decorations with the race car theme! We also have a referral program – tell your friends and if they book a party with us you get $25! So you can earn all of your party rental back or more!
How much space do you need to set up? Indoor or outdoor?
Our custom arena is 8-foot by 8-foot. I recommend at least 2 feet minimum around the arena for the players and spectators to play or watch. So a total of 12 feet x 12 feet is ideal. We can setup indoors on carpet, tile, or wood and outdoors on concrete, gravel, or grass or any flat surface. A minimum 10 feet x 10 feet canopy or covering is required for outdoors setup; we have one available for rent or you can provide your own.
Do I need to have any special equipment?
To control the cars, each player will need an Apple or Android smartphone or tablet and be able to download a free app from their app store. We also rent tablets if you need them.
What is the starting age that you think is appropriate?
I think 5 is a good starting age. Some players have been as young as 3 and have really enjoyed playing even though they can’t really control the cars. Race cars are unique in that they appeal to just about everyone – boys and girls, young children, teenagers, and adults.
We have a child that is sensitive to sound. Are the cars noisy?
The cars have a little speaker that sounds when the car is hit and the tablets or smartphones have their speakers. Neither is too loud but they all can be adjusted. The cars are battery-powered so there is very little engine noise. Most players are laughing so much you can’t hear the cars.
What other events do you do besides birthday parties?
Most of the events we have done have been street festivals which is our way to introduce our brand. We can also do school events, fundraisers, corporate events – anything where you need entertainment. Just give us a call to discuss what you have in mind.
How long have you been around?
We spent 2015 researching and developing our product and 2016 is our first year in operation. We have not found anyone else doing what we do. We plan to stay small in order to provide you with an excellent customer experience.
Do you work alone or have staff that assists you?
I specifically designed the arena to be built by one person, so most of the time I work alone. I will also be the one to communicate with you to schedule the event and make sure that you are taken care of from start to finish. Most likely I will be the one to do the physical setup at your party, but in the case of a scheduling conflict I will send someone I trust. In that situation, I will send you their name and picture before the event.
What do people say about your work when you’ve finished? Any recommendations?
My business philosophy comes from Zig Ziglar – You can have everything you want if you help enough people get what they want. Customer service is the focus of our marketing plan; we believe our satisfied customers will tell their friends which will help us grow our business. People usually describe our cars as “awesome” or “very cool” and have trouble putting them down. We’ve recently introduced an all-day pass option when we setup at street festivals and some kids play for hours! To ensure that you are satisfied, after your party I will leave you with a survey to return to me in a prepaid envelope. I’m not satisfied until you are satisfied!
